It is Victoria's reign and these young ladies are dressed up for their first ball. Their sumptuous dresses are draped around them and decorated with floral ornament. They have long gloves and a fan. We may not go to this rigmarole to find a husband these days but we can enjoy the fashions of the time, which must have been so very heavy to wear - not to mention the corsetry needed to keep those waists so very slim!
